Mount Vernon, Iowa, my home for 41 years, is not only an incredibly wonderful place to live, it's also a great place to come for a day or weekend getaway. Our little town is home to Cornell College, a small liberal arts college that happens to be my Alma Mater. We are located in east Central Iowa just 20 miles north of Interstate 80 at Iowa City and we are 15 minutes east of Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Route 30, formerly known as the Lincoln Highway.

Our main streets sits atop a tree-lined hill and is home to several wonderful shops, restaurants and businesses. The community is filled with victorian and turn of the century homes and there's not a bad neighborhood in town. We have everything we need right here in our little town, but are just minutes away from anything we might want. It's truly the best of both worlds here in MV.

Currently Mount Vernon has 8 antique shops and several other specialty and gift shops.
